History of Faisalabad     

Sir Charles James Lyall, formerly Lieutenant Governor of Punjab, created Faisalabad in 1885. The city was named after Hazrat Ali, the fourth Caliph of Islam. Faisalabad started as a small town, but it quickly expanded into a big city.    

Faisalabad is the administrative capital of the Faisalabad District and is located in the middle section of Punjab province. The city is located on the banks of the Chenab River. Faisalabad is home to more than 3.5 million people. There are nine Union Councils in the city.    


Faisalabad's climate is hot and humid in the summer and cold in the winter. Summer temperatures average 38 degrees Celsius, while winter temperatures average 22 degrees Celsius.    

Faisalabad's economy was built on agriculture, the textile sector, and medicines. The city is also a major educational hub.

Faisalabad is located in the heart of Punjab province on the bank of River Chenab. It is situated about 200 km from Islamabad and Lahore. The city was formerly known as Lyallpur until 1979 when it was renamed in honor of King Faisal of Saudi Arabia during his state visit to Pakistan. Faisalabad district has an area of 527 km2 and its administrative boundaries touch Toba Tek Singh District to its west, Jhang District to its south and Khushab District to its north

The Clock Tower    

Faisalabad’s Clock Tower is located within its city center. However, what’s unique about this site is not the clock tower but the fact that an aerial view of the area forms the Union Jack, which is the British flag. Jinnah Garden    

Named after the Father of the Nation, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Jinnah Garden is the final resting place of Sir Charles James Lyall. It is one of the central parks of the city and is also known to the locals as “Company Bagh.”

Lyallpur Galleria
