Eid ul Azha, also known as Eid ul Edha in Pakistan. It is one of the most important Islamic festivals. It reminds us of the immense sacrifice Prophet Ibrahim (A.S) paid and his whole loyalty to Allah. Eid ul Azha is projected to be observed on Monday, 9th June in 2025; holidays across Pakistan are probably from Friday, 6th June to Monday, 9th June.
The life of Prophet Ibrahim (A.S) offers a great lesson. In a dream, he observed, Allah gave him orders to offer his son his life. He turned to follow the order without a second thought. But Allah swapped his son for a ram just as he was ready to act. This was a spiritual test.
In this narrative, the Ibrahim message is about complete respect for Allah and faith in Him in all circumstances. Muslims all around therefore present Qurbani to follow this Sunnah.
Eid ul Adha is important for recognising the worth of faith, obedience, and sharing with others as much as for making a sacrifice. Islam encourages us to treat the underprivileged; Eid ul Azha is a time when Muslims distribute the meat of the sacrificed animal to those in need.
The sacrifice is divided into three parts:
This helps build love, unity, and care in society.
Eid day starts with a special Eid prayer. It is performed in mosques or open grounds. This prayer is very important in Islam. People wear clean clothes, apply fragrance, and go to the mosque after Fajr. The Eid ul Adha prayer time is usually after sunrise. And it is different in each city. Local mosques announce the exact time closer to Eid.
After the prayer, Muslims greet each other with the words Eid ul Adha Mubarak and then perform Qurbani.
Families have an opportunity to make ready for Eid, do Qurbani, and spend time together in Pakistan when the Eid Adha holiday falls from Friday, the sixth to Monday, the ninth. People visiting relatives, cooking traditional cuisine, and presenting Eidi to young children marks a happy time. Homes and markets are ornamented, and blessings and happiness abound in the surroundings.
Though it's a time of sacrifice, Eid ul Azha also marks love, unity, and introspection. It reminds us to keep thanksfulness, to serve others, and to follow Allah. The true meaning of Eid is in giving our pride, bad habits, and selfish needs for the sake of Allah, not alone in sacrificing animals.
Let us get ready with pure hearts and great faith as the auspicious Eid ul Edha days in Pakistan approach.
